Both the Perth Writers Festival Schools Day and Family Day feature sessions, workshops and talks with many of your children's favourite authors and illustrators.
Ursula Dubosarsky is one of our most prolific and successful children's book writers. She has a couple of new books to seek out, including The Return of the Word Spy and The Deep End. She has also teamed up with illustrator Andrew Joyner (also at the Festival) to produce The Terrible Plop.
Illustrator Ron Brooks is responsible for many of our favourite children's books, such as The Bunyip of Berkley's Creek and Old Pig as well as Henry's Bed and Henry's Bath.
New Zealand authors Bernard Beckett (August) and Brian Falkner (The Project) have both won great acclaim for their writing for young people, while Anthony Eaton's book Daywards is the third installment in his fantasy trilogy. Another acclaimed fantasy writer, Margo Lanagan (Zombies vs Unicorns, Yellowcake) is at the Festival, as are Sandy Fussell (Jaguar Warrior) and Wendy Orr (Raven's Mountain).
Melina Marchetta captured the imagination of scores of young people with her first two books, Looking for Alibrandi and Saving Francesca. Her latest, The Piper's Son, takes up the story first started in Saving Francesca, rejoining her characters five years on.
