It's called the Beautiful Game, so how does soccer inspire beautiful writing? Just think of Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch, novelist Tim Park's book on his favourite Italian Club A Season with Verona, and Ryszard Kapusckinski's The Soccer Wars. Soccer is used to talk about globalisation, geo-politics, the male body and corruption. The current World Cup has also created its own frenzy of writing, from the excited out-pouring of fans to more lyrical approaches.
